It’s really important for us, who are missionaries of the Belem Mission Association Onlus, to feel that you all are near us with your love, perceiving that we are not alone in this difficult war.
You know that many teenagers we are working with are not common “poor teenagers” but they are “Meninos de rua” which means boys and girls who don’t have any family connection any more and who live and sleep on the pavements of San Paolo of Brazil, sniffing glue, using heavy drugs being 7-8 years old. They are used to stealing, being aggressive, entering and going out of the juvenile prison like a “ping-pong ball”. Some of them are on the edge of this “precipice” and your helps can anticipate the worst situations they could find themselves in, saving them in the end.
If your money are assigned to a child who is not alone but who has a family, even poor, it’s enough to send just one Euro a day, 30 Euros a month. Thanks to this amount it’s possible to increase his diet, buying for him some school stuff, paying his teachers, welcoming him into some centres for 8 hours a day or helping him at home. Sometimes your money will be used to render the slums where they live a bit more comfortable.
If a boy is welcomed into one of our Family-Houses it’s necessary that five people work together at the same project of adoption because the money spent to maintain the boy are almost 150 euros a month.
Every man, who wants to give his support, will send one euro a day, 30 euros a month and together we will help all those who are completely abandoned, assuring them a place to sleep, a school to go, the healthy help, the possibility to do some sport etc.
Children coming from the road spend a period called triage into one of our houses at the centre of the city. Here they can wash themselves, eat, legalize their documents and foster temporary permissions. Then, if they like they can live with us, into our houses for teenagers, attending the school and living with missionaries and other volunteers in a family atmosphere. Later, if they can’t return to live into their native families, they are welcomed as sons by one of our couples. They will be placed in foster care and then finally adopted.
